Ayurveda view:

In Ayurvedic Text Sushrut Samhita, Sushruta mentioned about 3000 years ago that Pitta type people are more prone to Ulcerative Colitis (Rakata Atisaar).
According to Ayurveda -all the factors that imbalance ‘Pitta’ bio-energy are also responsible for developing Ulcerative Colitis. These include indulgence in too many arguments, eating while watching TV or walking, watching too many violent movies, excessive heat or exposure of the sun, excessive alcohol and smoking, excessive mental activity, skipping meals, spicy, sour or stale and infected foods etc. In Pitta constitution persons, Pitta gets aggravated very quickly with the above factors and patients develop diarrhoea followed by bloody diarrhoea.
Ayurvedic herbs that will pacify Pitta and improve metabolism will helps to relive symptoms of colitis .and improve immune function through improve digestion. Ayurveda management of colitis helps to reduce inflammation of mucosa of intestines, improves consistency of stool ,reduce blood and mucus in stool, improve holding capacity of colon and day after day slowly reduces urgency to go to toilet. Improves haemoglobin, energy level, enhance immune function through improve digestion and overall health of person.
